Weather Day before Milwaukee

We didn't leave for Milwaukee until Monday since the waves on Lake Michigan were really nasty, having never settled down during the night. We did boat chores and had fun visiting with a couple from Minnesota who had been in the Trent-Severn when we were there. They also came to Tobermory on their way back to Port Washington.

I was waiting to write the blog after the Venetian-Lights Boat Parade that was scheduled for Sunday evening...but it never happened. We're not sure why....
During the afternoon until dusk, and then early Monday morning, Search and Rescue boats and a helicopter were off the marina searching for a 14 year old boy. It seems that he and his father, who was rescued, jumped from the breakwall into the very rough water. We're not sure if that had something to do with the boat parade not taking place.

Port Washington has many charter fishing boats and, even with the rough seas, they were very busy.

The captain also cleaned the salmon before his clients took them home. Kate was fascinated!!!

On Monday morning we heard the charters leaving at 5 am...so we got up, checked the weather, and left for the 22 mile trip to Milwaukee. We arrived early...and were soon walking by the Milwaukee Museum of Art. The "wings" move to provide shade, and at noon they closed completely, while can-can music was playing since they currently have a Toulouse-Lautrec Posters of Paris exhibit. We saw the museum as we entered the harbor, but up-close, it was amazing.

We walked through downtown, ate lunch at the Pfister Hotel, and were motivated to keep walking the Riverwalk to reach Rock Bottom Brewery to quench our thirst.

White Ale and Naughty Scot Scotch Ale....can you guess who ordered which???

We also met the Fonz on the way! Was he really that short?????

Those were the highlights of our "Happy Day" in Milwaukee. I wish we had more time here...but tomorrow we are hoping to travel the 85 miles to Chicago. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, Tues., and a much greater chance on Wed.
