We had about 25 miles of these waves. At least Snow Cat, being a catamaran, doesn't roll too much and averaged 13 knots.
Captain Salty never fell off his shelf!
AND...Captain Salty was lucky that he didn't have to go below to use the head!
Are we there yet???
We arrived safely by 10 o'clock, fuelled up since Port Washington is known for their low fuel prices. Diesel yesterday was $3.75/gal. Today it was $3.91. Oh well, it's still a lot cheaper than in Chicago.
We are next to another Looper boat, Took the Plunge, who pulled in right after we did.
We went to the Farmer's Market and bought wonderful organic produce!
Then we toured yet another lighthouse! This one was constructed in 1860. The tower with the fresnel lens was eventually removed when a light tower was erected at the entrance of the harbor. In 2000, while renovations were taking place by the Historical Society, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg agreed to build a new tower and ship it over to Port Washington, as a thank you to the area that provided a home to many immigrants from Luxembourg, and as a thank you for the US liberating Luxembourg in WWII. So the light tower was once again attached, and the house was once again, a "lighthouse."
With the oil lamp lit inside the lens, the light could be seen over 20 miles away!
The weather forecast for tomorrow is calling for a continuation of wind and waves...so to leave or not to leave will be decided around 6:30. Stay tuned....
Love the lighthouse in the house. Hope your journey has been safe and without high waves. Noreen and I just got a voucher to go up in a hot air balloon over Kissimmee. We have to do it within the next year. Hope to go after our trip in Oct. I'm ready for another adventure. As you might expect, I am really getting bored. Going to Atlanta in the 14th for the weekend. Safe sailing. Love, Joan
