Back to Ontario!!!

This is the Oswego Lighthouse at 6am on Wed., June 6th. The moon is in the upper left corner! Three boats left together, but one had engine trouble about a mile out and turned back. We had a very calm crossing!!!

Back in Ontario!!!! We came through the Murray Canal and saw cedar trees that really made us feel like we were home. I'm sure Kate thought it smelled like home because she got very excited!

There is a $4.90 toll to open a swing bridge over the Murray Canal. You put the toll in a cup at the end of a pole. We did the same thing back in the 80's went we went through with Jeff on our 25' sailboat! Some things never change....

Soon we were in Trenton, the beginning of the Trent-Severn Waterway. We stayed at a marina and they didn't have wi-fi!!! Hence the delay in the blog....
We are flying our TYC pennant---Tobermory Yacht Club flag----and a man from another boat in Trenton asked if we really were members of the Tobermory Yacht Club. We said, "Yes", and we met Marty and Jerry Richardson who spend the summer on Stag Island in Tobermory!!!

Here's our map! We started in the lower right-hand corner. The waterway is just lovely with pretty cottages and quaint towns. But we need to go through 43 locks and then the Big Chute Marine Railway before we reach Georgian Bay, in the upper left-hand corner. On Day 1, Thurs., we reached the lock just before Campbellford 10 minutes too late for the last lockage at 3:45. They aren't on summer hours yet, but on the weekend they will lock through until 6:45.

Lock #1---we are traveling with Julie and Al from Holland, Michigan, on Harem.
We did 10 locks the first day, and 8 locks on the second day.
 Beautiful scenery....
Lockmasters, on each side of the lock, turn handles that open and close the lock doors.
There are two sets of flight locks, where you leave one lock and automatically enter the second lock. This one at Ranney Falls lifted us 48 feet.
We loved stopping in Campbellford. The artist who designed the bear on our Toonie came from near here. This giant Toonie is in Old Mill Park where we tied to the wall for a few hours.
Of course we had to go to the Buttertart Factory....and the chocolate outlet...and Dooher's Bakery!!! Before getting back on board, we shopped at Canadian Tire and we bought lunch at Tim Horton's!!! We definitely feel like we are home!!!
We stopped for the night in Hastings. Tomorrow we will cross Rice Lake, our largest body of water so far, and spend the weekend in Peterborough.
