A Perfect Day...even though it rained!

It poured during the night, but we left the fuel dock where we spent the night...free of charge...in between the rain showers. We had an easy 24 mile run to Cherokee Yacht Club/Marina, where our friends, Jim and Olivia, keep their Mainship, Persistence. Old Hickory Lake is the prettiest part of the Cumberland so far!!! We are so glad we went past Nashville to discover the beauty of the Cumberland River!!! This section reminded us of the Muskokas in Ontario. The waterway was curvy, but it was usually about 3/4 of a mile across, with lovely homes along the banks.

Jim told us Taylor Swift grew up on this lake.
The most noticeable and well-known landmark is the former home of country music legend Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash. They lived in the home at mile 229 from the 1960's until their deaths in 2003. Many of Cash's songs were written here. Sadly, it burned in 2007 and remains in ruins.

Just ouside of the channel, all along the Cumberland for the last few days, there are deadheads. In fact, if you ever wonder where the buoys are, you just look in between the deadheads! The channel is clear...but we wonder how much rain it would take to free up some of these trees and send them down the river! On one of the trees, we saw hundreds of white pelicans, but they were too far away for a decent picture. We first spotted them on Lake Michigan, and they are migrating south, just like us!

Blue Herons have been everywhere, on every river, for our entire trip!

Jim and Olivia drove us into Nashville for a tour of the highlights, which included Gaylords' Opry Hotel. It is so amazing--so huge, so beautiful with all the orchids, gardens, waterfalls...just truly incredible!

We had such a wonderful day, despite the intermittent rain!

Tomorrow we have Olivia's car to go into Nashville on our own to visit the the downtown area and hopefully to see a show at the Grand Ole Opry House! Life is good.....
