Final Leg of our Journey

On Monday, we left Palm Coast in the fog, and were happy to find out our radar works! We passed by St. Augustine where we have stayed several times. Their new mooring field is almost empty since most cruisers are down in the southern part of FL.

I took a picture of their lighthouse, but zooming in on a bouncy boat doesn't not yield a good photo! We have climbed this lighthouse in the past, but we kept on trekking so we could get to Jacksonville before the next cold front.
There was no boat traffic in the St. Johns River. No freighters to contend with...no fast boats, except for the US Coast Guard!

We stayed overnight on the free wall at Jacksonville Landing, in the heart of downtown JAX, where there are many restaurants, bars, and shops. The lights on one of the bridges at our stern were beautiful!

Then in the morning we went a few miles upstream to Lamb's Yacht Center, on the Ortega River, where Snow Cat will stay until we return in April. We had to go through a bridge that was being serviced and only half of the opening span could not be raised. The bridge master told us the opening was 21 feet. Snow Cat's beam is 17 feet. With 3 feet to spare on each side, Captain Don steered Snow Cat through perfectly! This is how the opening looked from out stern...it looked very narrow from the bow also....I think I was holding my breath!

Good-bye for now! Our blog will continue as we head north in April!!! Tobermory here we come!!!
