Back in Alabama

Thunderstorms came during the night, and the dogs left their beds and came down the stairs to find us! It was quite the pyrotechnic show. Today there was only a 20% chance. We left the dock during a patch of sun, and luckily had no rain all day. When we had the heavy rain on Saturday, we opened a bag of white powdered doughnuts...our comfort food on rainy days. But today...no doughnuts! It doesn't look like we will have rain for at least this entire week. Maybe we better freeze them...I think not!

We kept hearing a city mentioned on tv called Tupelo in Mississippi. It sounded so familiar....but it took a while to remember why I heard about it. It was the birthplace of Elvis....your trivia for the day.

A monarch hitched a ride! Maybe he came from Tobermory!

The low shoreline gets a bit boring after a while, compared to the Tennessee River.  There aren't many houses, and the trees all look the same. There are many dead trees and stumps that have to be avoided, buoys that have drifted out of place, and trees that were never cut down when the land was flooded. But around every curve there could be a tug and barge lurking...today this one filled with large rocks was being turned around 180 degrees. Quite amazing to watch.

Can you spot the "channel" in this clump of trees???

There are pipes with red and green tops that mark this channel into Aberdeen Marina. We followed a winding channel for over half a mile to fuel up with diesel at $2.699 a gal. The cheapest we have found previously was 3.099.

We are at Pirate's Marina Cove at mile 307 and tomorrow hope to reach Demopolis at mile 213.
