On the move again...more pics of Kate...

We left Clarksville on Wed. morning, at 7:45. It was good to get moving again and have our minds focused on navigation. We only had about 70 miles to go to reach Lake Barkley State Park Marina. It was an easy ride, and we walked over to The Lodge where we would have dinner later on. In the evening they picked us up!
We passed one of the four remaining car ferries on the Cumberland. It costs one dollar to go across the river at Cumberland City.

 The maple trees are beautiful!

Don takes a rest in the Lodge.

Lake Barkley is named after Alben Barkley from Kentucky who was Vice-President under Harry Truman, after serving in the House and Senate. He was a devoted advocate for the Kentucky farmers.

The Lodge complex is at the front of the picture, and the marina is in the background.

The marina, like most marinas in KY and TN is very reasonable, $.85/ft. But the wi-fi wasn't very strong. On Thurs. we continued heading northwest and returned to Green Turtle Bay Resort, our favorite marina so far! The Cumberland River's source and mouth are in Kentucky, but most of it flows through Tennessee.  For the last 40 miles of our trip we have been back in Kentucky.

You may remember back in May 2010 heavy rains caused major flooding on the Cumberland. The two major cities on the river, Nashville and Clarksville, were both devastated. When we were at the Grand Ole Opry, we heard how it was closed until September 2010 because of over 4 feet of water over the stage.  That year we luckily left our boat on the Tennessee River, near Knoxville, which did not have flooding. I must say that the song "Cry Me a River...I Cried a River over You" kept rolling around in my head all day as I was thinking of Kate.

Kate is never far from our minds. I would like to share some earlier pictures with you. The first was taken in Jeff's swimming pool in Florida. The others are from the Bahamas.

 Kate the otter!

Kate put her head under the water and picked up the starfish. I told her to drop it...and she did!

Kate balancing on the bow in front of her sister, Lacey.

While we waked the many beaches, Kate preferred to swim parallel to shore!
